KeepWords
English vocabulary app for iOS and Android

Privacy Policy

Effective date: 24 September 2026

In short: KeepWords has no accounts and no servers of its own. The words, sentences, quiz history, to-dos and voice recordings you create stay on your device. Some features send data to other companies to work: Google for translation and ads, Wikimedia for dictionary definitions, and your phone's speech recognizer when you answer out loud. This page explains each one.

This policy applies to the KeepWords mobile app (the "App") published by Emirhan Tunc ("I", "me"). If you have any questions, contact emirhantunc7805@gmail.com.

1. Data stored on your device

Everything you create in the App is stored only in the App's private storage on your device:

I do not run any server for the App, and I cannot see, access or recover this data. There is no account and no cloud sync. Other apps cannot read it, and it is deleted when you uninstall the App. You can also delete it at any time in Settings → Storage.

2. Data sent to third parties

Some features only work by sending data to a third-party service. I do not receive a copy of it.

Translation (Google)

When you translate a word or sentence, the text you typed and the two language codes are sent to Google's translation service (translate.googleapis.com) to get the translation. Google also receives your IP address, as with any internet request. See Google's Privacy Policy.

Dictionary (Wikimedia Foundation)

To show definitions and example sentences, the English word is sent to the Wiktionary API (en.wiktionary.org), run by the Wikimedia Foundation. See the Wikimedia Privacy Policy.

Speech recognition (Google on Android, Apple on iOS)

If you answer a quiz question by speaking, your voice is processed by your phone's built-in speech recognition service to turn it into text. Depending on your device, this may happen on the device or on Google's servers (Android) or Apple's servers (iOS). The App only receives the resulting text and does not keep the audio. This only happens when you tap the microphone in a quiz.

Advertising (Google AdMob)

The App is free and shows ads through Google AdMob. To serve and measure ads and to prevent fraud, the Google Mobile Ads SDK may collect and process:

If you are in the European Economic Area, the UK or Switzerland, the App asks for your consent through Google's consent message before requesting ads, and you can change your choice at any time in Settings → Privacy options. You can also reset or limit your advertising ID in your device settings. Learn more in How Google uses information from apps that use its services and Google's Privacy Policy.

3. Features that stay on your device

4. Permissions

PermissionWhy it is used
MicrophoneTo record voice notes and to answer quiz questions out loud.
Speech recognition (iOS)To turn your spoken quiz answer into text.
CameraTo scan words from a book or page.
Photos (iOS)To read a photo you pick so words can be scanned from it.
NotificationsTo remind you to review words and, if you turn it on, to finish your tasks.

Each permission is only requested when you first use the related feature, and you can turn it off at any time in your device settings.

5. Children

The App is not directed to children under 13, and I do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided personal information through the App, contact me and I will help.

6. Your choices and rights

Because your content never leaves your device except as described above, you control it directly: you can edit or delete it in the App, or remove everything by uninstalling it. Depending on where you live (for example under the GDPR or CCPA), you may have rights to access, correct or delete personal data. For data processed by Google or Wikimedia, those requests are handled by them through the links above. For anything else, write to emirhantunc7805@gmail.com.

7. Security

Data sent to the services above travels over encrypted HTTPS connections. Data on your device is protected by your device's own security, such as your screen lock.

8. Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, the new version will be published on this page with a new effective date. Significant changes will also be mentioned in the App's release notes.
